  1. Start by heating the oven to 180C/350F/Gas 4.
  2. Prepare a baking tray by lining it with baking parchment.
  3. In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, and baking powder.
  4. Incorporate the cubed butter by rubbing it into the mixture until it resembles breadcrumbs.
  5. Fold in the dried fruit.
  6. In a separate bowl, whisk together the egg and milk along with the vanilla extract.
  7. Pour the egg mixture into the dry ingredients.
  8. Use a spoon to mix until the ingredients are just combined into a thick, lumpy dough.
  9. If necessary, add an extra teaspoon of milk to help the mixture hold together.
  10. Spoon portions of the mixture, about the size of golf balls, onto the lined baking tray.
  11. Ensure there is space between each spoonful as they will spread and flatten during baking.
  12. Bake in the oven for 15-20 minutes, or until they are golden-brown.
  13. Take them out of the oven and let them cool for a few minutes.
  14. Transfer the baked goods to a wire rack to cool completely.
