Ingredients
- 3 g flour
- 1 g brown sugar
- 1 g salt
- 2 tsp instant yeast
- 0.5 cup shortening
- 3 ml water
- 1 pcs dusting flour
Instructions
- Combine the sugar, salt, and instant yeast in a large mixing bowl.
- Stir with a large wooden spoon, then add the shortening or lard and work it in by hand until fully incorporated.
- Pour in the warm water and stir until a firm dough comes together, adding extra flour as necessary to prevent sticking.
- Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead for about 8 to 10 minutes until it becomes smooth.
- Form the dough into a large round, cover it, and allow it to rest for 45 minutes.
- After the rest, knead briefly on a lightly floured work surface and shape the dough into the breads you prefer.
- Arrange the shaped loaves or rolls on a baking sheet or in a loaf pan and let them proof for 25 minutes.
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Bake until the breads are golden brown.
- If using active dry yeast, dissolve it with the sugar in 3½ cups of warm water (115–120°F).
- Add a pinch of salt and ½ pound of sifted flour to the yeast mixture and stir with a wooden spoon.
- Place the mixture in a warm spot for about 1 hour, until it becomes foamy and bubbly.
- Sift the remaining flour into a large bowl, pour in the foamy yeast mixture, add the shortening or lard, and combine.
- Add additional flour if the dough is sticky, turn it out onto a floured board, and knead for about 8–10 minutes.
- Form it into a large round, cover, and let it rise for 45 minutes.
- Shape into the desired loaves, set them on a baking sheet or in a bread pan, let them rest for 25 minutes, preheat the oven to 375°F, then bake until golden brown.
