Instructions

  1. Begin by preheating your oven to 180°C (350˚F).
  2. Prepare a cake pan by greasing it and lining it with baking parchment.
  3. In a spacious bowl, crack the four eggs and combine them with the sugar.
  4. Whip the egg and sugar mixture until it has significantly increased in volume and is fluffy.
  5. Sift the self-rising flour.
  6. Incorporate the sifted flour into the egg mixture.
  7. Gently fold the flour into the egg mixture, taking care to retain as much air as possible.
  8. Stir in the melted butter, making sure it has cooled slightly.
  9. Blend until everything is well combined.
  10. Add cinnamon, a small pinch of salt, and vanilla extract to the batter.
  11. Chop the apple and mix it into the batter.
  12. Carefully fold the apple pieces into the batter to ensure they are evenly distributed.
  13. If desired, coat the apple pieces in a little extra cinnamon.
  14. Transfer the batter into the prepared cake pan.
  15. Use a spatula to level the surface of the batter.
  16. Arrange the apple slices on top of the batter and press them down gently.
  17. If you like, sprinkle almond slivers on top.
  18. Bake the apple cake in the heated oven for approximately 45-50 minutes.
  19. Insert a wooden skewer into the center of the cake to check for doneness; it should come out clean.
  20. Take the cake out of the oven and allow it to cool in the pan for a few minutes.
  21. Carefully take the cake out of the pan.
  22. Place the cake on a wire rack and let it cool completely.
  23. Dust the cooled apple cake with powdered sugar.
